Nathan Byrd Pre-Race Quotes:
On Michigan International Speedway: “I’m excited to race at a new track that I hear is one of the fastest on the NASCAR circuit. There’s going to be quite a bit to learn still, but I feel ready to take on a new track and challenge.”
On Michigan International Speedway Preparation: “Preparation for Michigan is the same as usual. I’ve started to focus more on watching onboard footage and understanding how the track races in real life, rather than getting too many laps on the simulator, which isn’t always the most realistic learning tool.”
On Michigan International Speedway Race Expectations: “I’m not sure what I’m expecting yet for the race. I’m hopeful that we can have a clean race with very little attrition. If we can achieve that, then we can focus on being as competitive as possible and obtaining a good result that accurately reflects the truck's true pace.”
On Michigan International Speedway Goals: “I think a satisfying finish this week would be a top-20 result without attrition and a top-15 like Rockingham and Texas if attrition becomes a big factor.
“However, if our truck is capable of it and I have a great race, I would be remiss if we weren’t able to push for better results in both situations, closer to a top 15 and top 10, respectively. I see no reason why we can’t do that, especially if we have a really competitive truck.”
On Driver Advice: “I’m getting to know more and more drivers, and there are a lot of guys I feel like I can go to whenever I’m looking for some perspective or advice.
“But definitely the driver that I can count on the most, who has helped me tremendously this season, is Stefan Parsons. He’s an awesome coach, a great teammate, and an asset to the Young’s Motorsports team.”
On Learning Curve: “I’ve learned that there is no room for error and that every lap at this level of competition can make or break the ultimate result of the race.
“When a racer like myself is in a position where I have to learn a new discipline of truck racing and the new tracks as well as also perform in terms of achieving results we deem a success, it makes it that much more challenging to balance the risk versus reward of learning and getting faster while not overstepping the limit and putting the ultimate race result at risk.”
