Saturday night’s NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series event will kick off another action-packed doubleheader weekend at the 1.25-mile oval before the NASCAR Cup Series takes center stage on Sunday, Sept. 13, for the Enjoy Illinois 300.

Located just across the Mississippi River from downtown St. Louis and the iconic Gateway Arch, World Wide Technology Raceway presents one of the more distinctive challenges on the NASCAR schedule.

The egg-shaped 1.25-mile paved oval features two dramatically different sets of corners, forcing drivers and teams to find a delicate compromise when setting up their race cars. Turns 1 and 2 feature a tighter radius than Turns 3 and 4, requiring drivers to adapt their approach from one end of the track to the other on every lap.

Heavy braking also plays a significant role at Gateway. Drivers must balance carrying speed into the corners with maintaining rear grip under braking and generating enough forward drive to capitalize on the track’s long straightaways.

Those characteristics place an added premium on throttle control, brake management and communication between driver and crew chief as teams search for a balance that can remain competitive over the course of a long green-flag run.

Track position and pit-road execution can also prove critical. Passing opportunities can be difficult to manufacture as a run develops, making restarts, strategy calls and clean pit stops potential difference-makers as teams battle for every position throughout Saturday night’s race.

Darlington once again lived up to its “Too Tough to Tame” reputation for Ellis and the Young’s Motorsports team on Saturday night, but the setback has done little to dampen the team’s determination.

With several races still remaining in the 2026 season, Ellis and the No. 02 team will quickly put Darlington behind them and turn their attention toward World Wide Technology Raceway, where an encouraging 18th-place performance in Ellis’s track debut last season provides plenty of reason for optimism heading into Saturday night.

The Nu Way 225 powered by Bobcat and Sauced by Blues Hog (180 laps | 225 miles) is the 26th of thirty-three (33) NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series races on the 2026 schedule. Practice will occur on Sat., Sept. 12, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 12:50 p.m. Qualifying will begin immediately after, at 1:05 p.m. The field will take the green flag later in the day, shortly after 6:30 p.m. (7:30 p.m. ET), with live coverage on The CW Network, the Motor Racing Network (Radio), and SiriusXM NASCAR Channel 90. All times are local (CT).
