YOUNG’S MOTORSPORTS LEAVES IOWA WITH A PAIR OF TOP-15 FINISHES


THORSON EARNS 13TH-PLACE FINISH IN SECOND-CAREER NASCAR CAMPING WORLD TRUCK SERIES RACE


Tanner Thorson made his second-career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start Saturday at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa. He kicked off the day by finishing 22nd in opening practice and 16th in final practice. He advanced to the second round of qualifying and finished 22nd to line up on the outside of row 11 for the 200-lap M&M’s 200 presented by Casey’s General Store.

The Minden, Nev., native started 22nd in Saturday’s M&M’s 200 at Iowa Speedway and was 21st when the first caution of the day came out on lap 24. He was up to 17th just after the halfway point of the opening stage and finished 19th when the caution came out on lap 60, marking the end of Stage 1.

Thorson brought the No. 20 GoShare.co Chevrolet to pit road on lap 64 for four fresh tires, fuel and a wedge adjustment and he restarted from 19th on lap 67 when Stage 2 went green. On lap 102 when the caution came out, he was running in 22nd, one lap down to the leaders. He ended Stage 2 in 21st and was the first truck one lap down to earn the Lucky Dog free pass, getting back on the lead lap.

On lap 125, Thorson came to pit road for four tires, fuel and an adjustment on the No. 20 GoShare.co Chevrolet. He then came back down on lap 126 for a loose lug nut and to top off on fuel and restarted at the tail end of the field. He had to serve a penalty on lap 130 as the Lucky Dog Truck is only allowed to fuel once under caution. When the caution was displayed five laps later, the 22-year-old was running 18th in the Lucky Dog position and got the free pass to get back on the lead lap. In the closing laps of the 200-lap race, Thorson was able to climb up five more positions to earn a 13th-place finish.




HILL REBOUNDS FROM EARLY SPIN AND DAMAGE FOR TOP-15 FINISH


Austin Hill made his career-first start at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa during in this weekend’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series M&M’s 200. He was 17th in opening practice followed up by 10th in final practice on Saturday. After advancing to round 2 in qualifying, he started the 200-lap race in 18th and overcame an early spin that resulted in damage to the front of his Young’s Motorsports No. 02 Chevrolet to earn a top-15 finish.

The Winston, Ga., native started the M&M’s 200 presented by Casey’s General Store from 18th and was up to 17th when the first caution of the day was displayed. He lined up 15th for the restart on lap 30 and was involved in a four-truck spin on the restart. During the caution Hill came to pit road for four tires and repairs to the No. 02 Chevrolet Silverado and restarted in 24th. By the end of Stage 1, he was able to climb eight spots and finish 16th.

On lap 64, Hill was called to pit road for four fresh tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment and restarted Stage 2 in 13th. Halfway through the middle stage, Hill was running in 16th and had slipped back to 17th when the caution was displayed on lap 102. He eventually finished 18th in Stage 2.

Hill brought the No. 02 Chevrolet to pit road on lap 125 for four tires, fuel, a track bar adjustment and a tear off. He then restarted in 18th for the third and final stage of the day. When a caution came out on lap 135, the 24-year-old had climbed up to 12th and was 13th with 50 laps remaining in the 200-lap M&M’s 200. In the closing 20 laps, Hill and his teammate Tanner Thorson were battling for the lucky dog position, and ultimately finished 14th.




COOLING SYSTEM MALFUNCTION RELEGATES WILSON TO 28TH-PLACE FINISH


Reid Wilson made his second-career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) start in Saturday’s M&M’s 200 presented by Casey’s General Store at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa. He was 24th and 19th in the two NCWTS Practice sessions and advanced into the second round of qualifying to earn the 20th starting position for the 200-lap race.

The 22-year-old started the M&M’s 200 from the outside of row 10 and was running 17th at the halfway point of the opening stage. Shortly after, Wilson started reporting that the temperature inside of his No. 12 OEM2 Powered by TrüNorth™ Chevrolet was rising and becoming very uncomfortable. Despite the heat, he was running solid lap times and raced as high as 16th in the opening stage before finishing 17th.

On lap 64, the Huntersville, N.C., native came to pit road for water, four tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment to his No. 12 OEM2 Powered by TrüNorth™ Chevrolet and restarted Stage 2 in 18th. During a caution on lap 102, Wilson was called to pit road and elected to climb from his truck to seek treatment for heat exhaustion, relegating him to a 28th-place finish. He was treated and released from the infield care center.


Young’s Motorsports will be back in action on Saturday, June 23 at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, Ill., for the Villa Lighting delivers the Eaton 200 presented by CK Power.
