ROOKIES ON RECONFIGURATION: The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) heads to the newly reconfigured ISM Raceway (formerly Phoenix International Raceway) in Avondale, Ariz., this weekend it’s 21st race of the season. Austin Hill will be in the Young’s Building Systems RANDCO No. 02 and Tanner Thorson in the GoShare.co No. 20. for Friday evening’s Lucas Oil 150.
HILL CARRYING MOMENTUM FROM TEXAS: Coming off a career best fifth place finish last week at Texas Motor Speedway, the Winston, Ga., native is set to make only his second career start at ISM Raceway this Friday night. The No. 02 pilot and his team made all the right moves in Texas with solid practice runs and a 15th place qualifying effort. When the No. 02 took the checkered flag from the fifth position, it was the second time this season Hill improved his career best finish (previously eighth, Canadian Tire Motorsports Park) and first time inside the top-five. “Our run at Texas last week was fun, can’t wait to get back in the truck” Hill said, “I’ve only been to Phoenix (ISM) once, last year and my day was cut short due to a brake issue. My crew chief (Chad Kendrick) has had some good runs there and I am looking forward seeing what the reconfiguration is like.”
THORSON LOOKING 1-MILE MAGIC: Thorson is one of 14 drivers in the 32 truck field that will make their career-first NCWTS start at ISM Raceway this Friday night. The rookie made an impressive series debut at Dover International Speedway in May, the only other 1-mile track on the schedule. “I’m excited for Phoenix (ISM),” the Minden, Nev. native said, “my team has made good efforts but luck hasn’t been on our side to help deliver the solid finishes I know we’re capable of. I know we can get GoShare a strong finish this week with a little 1-mile magic like we had in my first race at Dover.”
